The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who turned himself in after allegedly shooting someone and evading deputies on May 6.
According to a CCSO press release, Shane Luker allegedly shot one victim at about 8:45 p.m. on May 6. Deputies and Verbena Fire and Rescue responded to the dispatch call at County Road 647 near the Autauga County line.
Deputies and responders ensured the victim’s safety before beginning their search. The victim was transported to UAB via helicopter for treatment after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.
After discovering Luker had fled on foot, deputies requested the Alabama Department of Corrections Dog Tracking Team to assist in finding him. The dogs lost Luker’s trail, leading deputies to believe that he had been picked up by someone.
According to the release, Luker turned himself in the morning of May 7 to the CCSO and was taken into custody without incident.
The CCSO believes the gunshot happened during a dispute over drugs.
