The Clanton Police Department and Chilton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after a standoff on Lay Dam Road at about 7 a.m. the morning of April 27.

The call was made in response to a domestic violence situation. Jonathan Tyler Mims refused to exit the house and was reportedly making threats. The CCSO tactical team entered the residence and apprehended Mims without incident.

“It was just a lot over nothing, really,” Sheriff John Shearon said. “He just refused to come out. He didn’t put up a fight.”

Shearon said the man hid until the tactical unit went inside, at which point he willingly surrendered without a struggle.

“That’s the peaceful outcome we want,” Shearon said.

Mims is in the Chilton County Jail and faces domestic violence charges.
