A Verbena man died in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at 10:20 a.m. on April 24. Two others sustained injuries in the incident.

Alabama State Troopers identified the man as Sam Lee Cunningham. Cunningham, age 68, was driving his Ford F-150 when he was struck by a Mitsubishi Galant, causing Cunningham’s vehicle to overturn.

Cunningham, who reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. His passenger and the driver of the Mitsubishi were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash happened at mile marker 210.5, approximately five miles south of Clanton.

The incident is still under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
