Music floated down the street as people browsed vendors up and down Main Street at Maplesville Heritage Day on April 8.

Perfect Peach line dancers, Will Langford and Gary Morris provided this year’s entertainment for the crowd.

Mayor W.C. Hayes said the event had a good turnout.

“It turned out to be a great day,” Hayes said. “It brings a lot of folks to town.”

Sharon Roper has lived in Maplesville for 25 years and attends the Heritage Day every year.

“I love being around everyone and seeing people I haven’t seen [for a while],” Roper said.

She said she enjoys the vendors and the food each year.

“There’s something here for everyone,” Roper said.

Katlyn Jones, who was attending her third Heritage Day, enjoys seeing what the clothing vendors have to offer each year.

Vendor Sherry Foshee of Hillside Crafts came from Centreville to participate in the event.

“People are wonderful and the traffic [to the booth] is really good,” Foshee said.

Her booth featured wood crafts and decorative towels.

Jimmy Tinsley at the Ministry Through God booth said he enjoys “being able to talk to people and let them know that Jesus is soon to come and we have to get our house in order” at the event.

Other vendors offered cotton candy, metal crafts and cosmetic products.

Off of Main Street, the festivities continued with a car show behind Valley Grande Mexican Restaurant.

Maplesville Heritage Day attracts former residents of the town for return visits. This was the case for Donna and Mack Bice. Although the couple moved away five years ago, they return each year for Heritage Day.

“We meet a lot of people that we know and just have a good time,” Mack Bice said.

The annual event began as Heehaw Day and was later renamed. Hayes said the original name came from someone who had been on the show Heehaw living in Maplesville.

Now, Maplesville Heritage Day serves as a fundraiser for the Maplesville Fire Department.
