Bettie Willis Melgosa
Mrs. Bettie Willis Melgosa, daughter of the late LeRoy and Bonnie Cofer Willis was born on Sept. 7, 1935 in Chilton County.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young teenager. She was a founding member of Victory Baptist Church, which was established in 1971. Through her church, she was an avid supporter of missions. Her life was a picture of the love of Jesus. Her Christian influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
Bettie was very talented. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Another one of the many ways she showed her love, was by giving of her quilting, crocheting, knitting and any other craft she strived to do.
She retired from a lifelong career with State Farm Insurance in Homewood.
On April 2, 2017 at 2:51 pm, the Lord called her home while her family surrounded her, celebrating her home going.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Bernard Garrett, Mason Cleckley, and Joe Melgosa.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd Winston Davenport.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Dianne (Ronnie) Smith, Larry (Jeri) Garrett, Nancy Rush, Wanda Savell, and Eric Cleckley. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Her siblings are Jennavee Willis (Harold) Mims and Martha Jo Willis (Ivie W.) Childress, and also a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends will be received from 12:30-2 p.m., Tuesday, April 4 at Victory Baptist Church. Services will be held Tuesday, April 4 at 2 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Midway Memorial Gardens, Jemison.
