Superheroes will hit the streets of Clanton on April 22 for the YMCA of Chilton County’s Everyday Hero 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run.
The 5K will begin at 7 a.m. and the Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m.
Director Lori Patterson said race participants are “encouraged to dress-up as their favorite superhero.”
The fundraiser is a part of the A Better Us Campaign going on throughout the month of April.
Patterson said proceeds from the race will go specifically to scholarships for students to participant in the after-school program.
Cost to register for the 5K is $25 before April 21 or $30 the day of the race. The YMCA will provide childcare if needed.
The 5K will be professionally chip timed. Cost to register for the fun run is $15 before April 21st or $20 on the day of the race.
The male and female overall winner will receive a prize basket. Medals will be awarded to winners in each age group. Age groups for the race will be ten-year age spans (0-10, 11-20, 21-30, etc).
The course for both runs will begin and end at the YMCA. The course will be along nearby roads. Local law enforcement officers will help ensure that the runners stay safe.
To join the fun, pick up a registration form from the YMCA at 405 Ollie Avenue or register online at active.com/clanton-al/running/distance-running-races/everyday-hero-5k-and-1-mile-fun-run-2017?int=.
There will also be a costume contest determined by a panel of judges. Patterson said she is looking forward to “everyone dressing up and having a good time.”
The A Better Us Campaign raises funds for the YMCA to complete its missions of social responsibility, healthy living and youth development. The YMCA of Chilton County hopes to raise $15,000 through the campaign this year.
