Alan Ray Getts

Alan Ray Getts, age 82, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Alan was born Jan. 15, 1935 in Warren, Ohio, to Raymond and Marjorie Brown Getts and raised by his grandparents, William Henry Brown and Vera Headley Brown. He played football and ran track in high school, including an Ohio state record.

He served his country twice, Air Force in North Africa and in the Marines in Vietnam. He was a licensed commercial pilot and loved flying, a skilled horse trainer and life-long student with a passion for learning.

He earned a B.S. in education, B.S. in industrial technology, and pursued a 32 year career as a professional driver/owner-operator without an accident.

He is survived by his wife, E Louise of Clanton; son, Christopher Alan Getts (Lucy); son, Frank Stephen Getts of Van Buren, Missouri; daughter, Georgianne Lea Taylor (Benjamin) of Prattville; beloved step-son, William Eldridge Urquahart (Lynne) of Wetumpka; brother, Robert Getts (Mary) of Swansea, South Carolina; sister, Vernelda McCreary of Warren, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; dear friends, Marvin Horn (Karey) of Clanton and Dorothy Mecum of St. Cloud, Florida.

He was preceded in death his sister, Joan Lowery (Ronny) of Robinson, Illinois.

Memorial services will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church, Clanton, on Friday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. Family and friends are welcome.
