Many of the county’s volunteer fire departments are seeking more volunteers.

Cedar Grove Fire Department has two stations that service a large area, which includes Isabella and much of the triangular area between the Jemison, Clanton and Maplesville coverage areas.

“There is a growing need and a growing number of people,” assistant chief Trae Caton said. “We’re here to serve them.”

Volunteers do not need any special qualifications. According to Caton, the department asks that volunteers live within five miles of the coverage area and have a clean background. The department will provide the opportunity for necessary training for volunteers.

“We are always searching and accepting volunteers. The need is ongoing,” Caton said.

Prospective volunteers can attend the meetings or call Caton at 205-312-1383 for more information.

The department meets every Tuesday and posts the meeting times and locations beforehand on its Facebook page. According to Caton, the meetings alternate between station one and station two, so it is important to check before coming.

Other fire departments in the county are seeking volunteers to help cover their areas, as well.

Gap of the Mountain Fire Department can be found on Facebook and “definitely” needs volunteers project management. According to a representative, no experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn.

East Chilton Fire and Rescue posted to its Facebook, “If you would like to serve your community then please find a volunteer department. All departments are looking for volunteers, including us.” The department’s number is 205-755-8200.

Union Grove Fire Department can be reached at 205-688-2727. The department trains on the first and third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. and offers an explorer program for those 14 to 21 years of age. Volunteers must fill out an application and attend three meetings before being voted upon for membership.
