Mark Lee Sheppard recently published his second novel titled America-Project Reformation in November.

The book is a fictional thriller that follows the first-person account of an ex-army specialist named Joe Rocco dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder, who gets caught up in the middle of an intricate web that includes the planning of a terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

“I’ve always been an avid reader and I’ve read a couple of books that have made quite the impression on me,” Sheppard said.

According to Sheppard, the second book involves several politic themes and overtones throughout the context. However, he always attempts to remain realistic in each character and situation that he presents.

“It is based on a lot of the news and situations of the day,” Sheppard said. “It took about two and a half years of research, because there are certain things that you can’t find unless you dig.”

Despite the novel’s events being fictional, the technology and weapons exist and are applicable within the real world.

“People need to be cognizant of the time we’re living in,” Sheppard said. “We need to be aware of what’s going on around us. I hope that this book helps open people’s eyes.”

Sheppard understands first hand the present dangers that the average person is not aware of, having spent time as a member of the Clanton Police Department.

“I’ve always lived my life looking for a sense of thrill, and I just try to carry that into the book,” Sheppard said.

His first book was titled Resume of Evil and was released in December of 2013. He is currently working on a third novel.

“When I start a book, I never know where it’s going to lead me, until I sit down and start writing,” Sheppard said.

Both of Sheppard’s books can be purchased at the Tate Publishing website or Amazon.com.
