T’s Attic recently opened up its doors on U.S. 31 in Clanton, as owners Tammy and Randy Barefield look to introduce a more affordable alternative to the community.
For the past couple of years the Barefields had been buying storage units, similar to the process seen on the reality television series “Storage Wars.”
According to Tammy Barefield, it reached the point that the items they were purchasing were beginning to exceed their allotted storage space.
“Our house was getting overrun with stuff,” Tammy Barefield said. “We knew we needed to find a bigger place or else give it up all together.”
However, giving up was not yet a viable option and the couple searched for a more viable situation, eventually finding a home in Clanton.
The Barefields live in Calera and have been pleased with the reception and warm welcoming that they have received from several Clanton residents that have made their way through the doors since it opened six weeks ago.
After years of yard sales, this is the first experience in owning their own business and they are continuing to learn as they go.
“We’re all about trying to keep the costs low,” Tammy Barefield. “The lord’s been good to us and we’re just trying to give that back to others.”
T’s Attic is all about providing options for families or individuals on a tight budget.
“Our goal is to try to keep bringing in different items, so that they see something a little different each time they come in,” Tammy Barefield said.
Collecting items over the years has allowed the Barefield’s to offer shoppers with a wide selection from clothes, toys, furniture and other accessories.
Children come into the store with their parents and spend time playing with the toys as their parents look around at the items.
According to Randy Barefield, the store is always bringing in seasonal items.
“It tickles the kids and just puts a big smile on their faces,” Randy Barefield said. “That is what it’s about.”
The store’s posted hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. However, these hours can be slightly modified depending on a specific night.
“We enjoy the conversations and sharing a laugh with our customers,” Tammy Barefield said. “It’s because of the people that we are able to do this.”
