Ronald “Ronnie” Alva English, Sr.
Ronald “Ronnie” Alva English, Sr., age 66, of Jemison, passed away Monday, Nov. 28.
There will be a memorial held Thursday, Dec. 1 at Charter Funeral Home, 2521 US-31, Calera, at 11 a.m., with a service to follow at noon.
Ronnie was born May 20, 1950 in Birmingham. He was a very hard working man, where most of his professional career was spent between Trio/Aamco Oil and driving a “Big Rig”. Ronnie’s driving days earned him the nickname “Lightpole”, as he is fondly remembered by many.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Regina Nichols English; son, Ronald “Buddy” Alva English, Jr.; five daughters, Sonya Vaughan (Rob), Tanya Vann (Mike), Krissi Thompson, Brandi English, and Megan Hester (Freddy); 12 grandchildren, Camryn, Grayson, Reese, and Ava Vaughan, Jordan and Kevin Vann, Dakota Thompson, Mason Musick, Waylen Ray, Brooklyn and Alexa English, and Aubri Hester; great granddaughter Lucia Pulliam; brother, Harold Keith English; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, Harold T. English; mother, Margaret Brooks English; and brother, Richard English.
His family paid tribute to him, “Ronnie was one of the funniest people you could ever meet. His big heart left his doors open for anyone who wanted to walk through them. He will be sorely missed, Rest In Peace, ‘King English the Great’.”
