JEMISON – Peach Queen Campground will host their annual Back to School Campout this weekend starting Friday night.
The event will go through the weekend, giving kids the chance to camp out for two nights and enjoy fun activities such as pool games, a water balloon fight, a free hot dog dinner, movies, popcorn and much more.
“We just wanted to host this for the children in the community to help out,” Dina Figueroa said. “There isn’t much to do around here so we just wanted something fun for them to do before heading back to school.”
The event will also host a couple of presentations to help educate the kids attending. The Jemison Police Department will do a safety program, the Jemison Fire Department will do a fire prevention program and Optometrist Dr. Bethany Lyn will talk about vision health and provide goodies for the kids.
“We wanted to educate the children on bullying and fire safety and to let them know that those guys are there for them, plus they get to play on a fire truck,” Figueroa said.
Figueroa said this is a great way for kids to get out of the house and enjoy their last weekend of being able to go to the pool and enjoy summer before they get back to the books.
“This event will help educate them on a lot of different things and will show the kids that they can have good clean fun because it’s hard for kids to stay out of trouble these days,” Figueroa said. “We are just letting them know that people are always there for them and there’s always somebody that will care about them.”
Everybody of school age is invited to the campout, which will conclude on Sunday morning with a pancake breakfast and morning service that will include gospel songs and a sermon. For more information or to make a reservation, you can call Peach Queen Campground at 688-2573.
