Dorothy Sarah Shaffer Kalanick

Dorothy “Dot” Kalanick, 92, went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 14, in Birmingham. She was born on April 8, 1924 in Mt. Carmel, Pa., to the late Leroy And Sarah Smith Shaffer.  Dot was a lifelong resident of Berwick, Pa.

Dot retired from Bloomsburg State University where she worked in the library. She was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and served on the Board at Roselawn Cemetery.

Dot is survived by one son, Charles Kalanick; three grandchildren, Jennifer Lyles (Linc), Erin Moore (Jeff), and Tim Hess; and five great-grandchildren; Jaxson and Anna Lyles and Jake, Taylor, and Dalton Moore.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Frank Kalanick; one son, Stephen Kalanick; one daughter, Cindy Hess; and one grandson, Todd Hess. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Shaffer and Robert Shaffer, and one sister, Barbara Gensil.

A celebration of Dot’s life will be held at Homeland Assisted Living Home in Jemison on Friday, July 22. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow.

A celebration of life service will also take place at Grace Lutheran Church in Berwick, Pa., on Thursday, Aug. 4. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow.
