Qualifying underway for municipal elections

Several candidates for local municipal elections have already completed the qualifying process.

Qualifying for mayor and council positions began July 5 and ends at 5 p.m. July 19.

Residents interested in seeking these positions should visit their respective city/town halls.

Municipal elections will be held Aug. 23.

The deadline to register to vote in these elections is Aug. 8.

To register to vote, contact the Chilton County Board of Registrars at (205) 755-3820, or visit the Board in the bottom floor of the Chilton County Courthouse in Clanton.

Those who have qualified as of Wednesday afternoon are listed below.

Clanton

Mayor: Billy Joe Driver (incumbent)

District 1: Jeff Price (i), Danny Carter, Charles Powell

District 2: Bobby Cook (i), Lynn Best

District 3: Sammy Wilson (i), Al Headley

District 4: None (Greg DeJarnett is incumbent)

District 5: Mary Mell Smith (i)

Jemison

Mayor: Eddie Reed (i)

District 1: George Brasher (i)

District 2: Donnie Lane (i)

District 3: None (incumbent is Robert Morris)

District 4: Rex Bittle (i)

District 5: Sam Reed (i)

Maplesville

Only incumbent Mayor W.C. Hayes Jr. has qualified.

Thorsby

Only incumbent Mayor Jean Nelson and Robert Hight have qualified.
