Charles Everett Barnes

The Rev. Charles Everett Barnes was born in Matthews Community of Southern Montgomery County, Alabama on October 30, 1932 to James Benjamin and Sarah Elizabeth Dickey Barnes. He passed peacefully into his Heavenly Father’s arms on June 29, 2016 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. He was a resident of Chilton County for 45 years.

Bro. Barnes, as he was affectionately known, had many different occupations: airman, pastor, teacher, farmer, security guard, carpenter, bus driver, volunteer fireman and poll worker. He was a wonderful husband, daddy, granddaddy, great-granddaddy, brother, uncle and friend. He loved his Lord and Savior above all but also loved people and wanted more than anything for all that he met to know his best friend, Jesus. He was known for reminding others of the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” He longed to know more about Jesus and was a lifelong learner of the Bible. He loved the outdoors and walked 2-3 miles daily for enjoyment.

Bro. Barnes was preceded in death by his parents: James and Sarah; his wife of over 51 years, Cora Sue; his son: Tim; an infant daughter; his brothers: James (Bud) Barnes, Clifford Barnes, and George Barnes.

Bro. Barnes is survived by his daughters: Anita Sue (Mark) Kennedy of Beech Grove, Indiana; Aletha Ruth (Bret) Tecklenburg of Cottondale, Alabama; grandsons: Timothy Brad Barnes of Clanton, Alabama; Nathan Kyle (Diane) Kennedy of Gravette, Arkansas; Tanner Blake Barnes of Clanton, Alabama; Kael Benjamin Tecklenburg and Matty Bryant Tecklenburg of Cottondale, Alabama; granddaughter: Amanda Michelle Ellison of Jemison, Alabama; great-grandson: James Nathan Kennedy of Gravette, Arkansas; great-granddaughter: April Michelle Norris of Clanton, Alabama; sisters: Doris Browder of Prattville, Alabama; Margaret Morgan of Montgomery, Alabama; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 6 from 5-7 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton, Alabama. Celebration of Life Service will be on Thursday, July 7 at 10 a.m. at Stanton Bible Methodist Church in Stanton, Alabama. Graveside burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Brent, Alabama with the Rev. Walter Hedstrom, the Rev. John Ingram, the Rev. Martha Headley officiating. Music provided by the Rev. Steve and Kay Vernon.

Pallbearers will be Honorary Grandsons: Eric Wargo, Josh Bryant, Matt Coker, Trent Wyatt, Blake Edwards and Alex Price.

Honorary Pallbearers are: the Ministers of the Alabama Bible Methodist Connection of Churches and the Members of Fairview Volunteer Fire Department.
