The owner of a planned truck stop development in Jemison said he hopes his development brings a new restaurant to the city—and more businesses.

Salim Rajpari purchased land off County Road 42 near Interstate 65 Exit 219 that will be the site of the truck stop.

Rajpari, a Hoover resident, said he owns trucks stops in Springville and Fultondale and looks forward to opening the business in Jemison.

The truck stop could be open by November, Rajpari said.

Site preparation work is underway.

Rajpari said the truck stop facility would encompass 4,500 square feet, likely offer BP fuel and, he hopes, include a restaurant—though a tenant has not been finalized.

Some potential restaurant chains have been hesitant to locate in the area because of a relatively low population, Rajpari said.

“I hope more franchises will come to bring business to the community,” he said.

The truck stop will offer a variety of fuel, a convenience store and possibly a repair shop, the owner said.

The development was the subject of a public hearing held by the Jemison City Council on May 16 because plans called for County Road 746 to be re-routed.

Those in attendance ultimately seemed satisfied with the plan to re-route the road.

Marla Beaver was one of those who attended the public hearing. She co-owns about 16 acres of property off County Road 746, just a few hundred feet from the planned truck stop.

Beaver said she thinks the truck stop will be good for the area.

“It looks like a good plan to me,” Beaver said. “I believe it will be good for Jemison.”
