Robert Oneal “Pete” Varden, age 73 of the Mineral Springs Community in Jemison, passed away on May 19, 2016, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born in Chilton County on October 20, 1942, the son of the late Robert Bernie Varden and the late Louise Ellison Varden.

He was a former commercial construction superintendent.

He is survived by: wife, Myra Varden of Jemison; daughter, Melanie (Rodney) Jackson of Clanton; daughter, Monica (John) Reavis of Jemison; son, Ryan (Rachel) Varden of Jemison; granddaughters: Nicole Jackson of Clanton, Dawn Pebworth of Clanton, Presley Perry of Montevallo, and Ava Varden of Jemison; grandsons: Kenton Varden of Shelby, and Johnse Varden of Jemison; and great granddaughter, Addalyn Mims of Clanton.

He is preceded in death by: son, Kent Varden; and granddaughter, Addalynn Varden.

Visitation was held Sunday, May 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 23 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Aaron Ellison officiating.

Burial followed in Midway Memorial Gardens in Jemison.
