Board of Ed. approves personnel actions

The Chilton County Board of Education approved several personnel actions at its meeting May 17.
Approved resignations/retirements included:
•Regina Young, library media specialist at Jemison Elementary School, effective June 1.
•Sherry C. Fancher, assistant principal at Jemison Elementary School, effective May 31.
Approved new certified employees and transfers included:
•Teresa Stewart, family and consumer sciences teacher at Maplesville High School.
•Stephen Jordan Creel, agriscience teacher at Isabella.
•Matthew Tate Leonard, physical education teacher at Isabella.
•Mark Stephenson, assistant principal at Clanton Elementary School.
Approved new support employees and transfers included:
•Beverly Brown, secretary at Jemison Elementary School.
•Jerry Deavers, bus driver/Clanton for the transportation department.
•Tera Easterling, bus driver/Clanton for the transportation department.
•Kim Kohn, bus driver/Clanton for the transportation department.
•Christina Land, bus driver/Jemison for the transportation department.
•Jason Lucas, bus driver/Jemison for the transportation department.
•Terry Ellison, bus driver/special needs for the transportation department.
•Suzanne Robinson, bus driver/special needs for the transportation department.
•Rita Jones, bus aide/special needs for the transportation department.
•Christie Payne, cafeteria manager for Verbena High School.
•Brandy Carter, cafeteria assistant manager for Verbena High School.
•Bridgette Jones, cafeteria assistant manager for Chilton County High School.
Non-renewals included Samantha Robinson, vocational rehabilitation at PASS Academy/central office.
Approved summer workers included Hunter Bennett, Cameron Collins, Austin Prough, Trent Smith, Hunter Veazey and Andy Vines for the maintenance department, and Malcolm Hughes and Bobby Smith for the transportation department.
The Board also approved Michelle Coppedge as the interim special education director.
The Board approved leave requests by Stephanie Akers from May 6 to July 29 and Amy Guy from May 16 to Aug. 8.
The Board approved Child Nutrition Program requests including:
•Renew bid for the 2016-17 school year with Forestwood Farms for fresh produce.
•Renew bid for the 2016-17 school year with Bordens Dairy for milk.
•Renew bid for the 2016-17 school year with Flowers Corporation for fresh bread.
•Renew bid for the 2016-17 school year with Mayfield Creameries for frozen snacks.
•Permission to participate in a purchasing cooperative bid for smallwares with Elmore County, Tuscaloosa County, Blount County, Cullman County, Jasper City, Lamar County, Pickens County, Tuscaloosa City, Fayette County, Marion County, Walker County, Bibb County and Winfield City school systems.
•Permission to release bid for the 2016-17 school year for pest control.
•Permission to release bids for a replacement steamer at Maplesville High School.
•Permission to obtain quotes for a steam cleaner and purchase at the lowest price.
•Approve for Wash on Wheels to professionally clean, inspect and certify the hoods at each school cafeteria at a cost of $244 per school.
•Participate in the Summer Food Service Program with Clanton Middle School and Jemison High School to serve as open feeding sites and food to also be served to YMCA students.
•Create a new position at Clanton Middle School based upon meals per labor hour data.
•Create a new position at Jemison Middle School based upon meals per labor hour data.
•Increase full pay student meal prices to $1.05 for breakfast and $2.55 for lunch for the 2016-17 school year. Board of Education employees’ lunch meal price will be increased to $3.25.
•Paint cafeteria at Jemison High School.
•Install new tile flooring at Jemison High cafeteria.
•Upgrade the fire suppression system at Chilton County High School and Verbena High School to Amerex 4.75 Gal as required by regulation.
In other business, the Board approved the curriculum coordinator’s requests and the Helping Families Initiative.
