Reuben Lanier “Pop” Edwards, age 75 of Clanton, passed away on May 16, 2016, at his residence.
He was born in Clanton on July 21, 1940, son of the late Luther Edwards and the late Vivian Coker.
He was a former mechanic for Blount Construction and a mobile home mover for GAS Mobile Homes.
He is survived by daughters, Ruth (Brian) Lewellen, Colleen Marshall and Elaine (Michael) Mims; sons, Earl (Nell) Dennis, Lane (Carolyn) Dennis, Thomas (Brenda) Edwards, Ray (Cathy) Dennis, James (Kimberly) Edwards, Jeff (Charlotte) Edwards, Jerry (Pam) Edwards, Benny (April) Edwards, David Smitherman and Jaybo Edwards; 32 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Smitherman and Margaret (Sammy) Fuller; brothers, Ray (Shirley) Edwards and Thomas Edwards; sisters-in-law, Jeannett (James) Deason, Becky (Charles) McDaniel, and Barbara (Dave) Barnwell; and a county full of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents, Luther Edwards and Vivian Coker Edwards; wife, Gloria Ann Edwards; sons, Luther Lanier Edwards and Reuben Dewayne Edwards; grandson, James Patrick Black; sisters, Maureen Willis, Faye Edwards, Debbie Headley, and Nell (J.C.) Littleton.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 18 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Powell, the Rev. Ray Edwards and the Rev. Jimmie Hardee officiating.
Burial followed in the Providence No. 2 Baptist Church Cemetery in Clanton.
The family received friends one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
