A portion of County Road 746 in Jemison will be closed to accommodate a planned truck stop.

A public hearing for the closure was held Monday as part of the Jemison City Council meeting.

County Road 746 intersects County Road 42 near Interstate 65 Exit 219. Access to the road will be re-routed to make space available for the planned truck stop.

Jemison Fire Department Chief John Dennis laid out plans for the changes during the meeting, and six people who own property in the area looked over the plans and asked questions about the situation, including about rights-of-way and road maintenance.

The owner of the truck stop business and a representative of the construction company performing the work were also present.

The residents ultimately seemed satisfied with the plan, and the Council unanimously approved its adoption.

Jemison Mayor Eddie Reed thanked the property owners for their interest in municipal government.

“We want everybody pleased if we can,” Reed said.

In other business, the Council:

•Presented a proclamation honoring the Jemison High School robotics team, which finished in second place in a recent national competition. Team members, sponsors and JHS Principal Diane Calloway were in attendance for the presentation. “We are proud of Jemison High School and the faculty and the accomplishments received by these students,” Reed said.

•Approved the installation of direction signs at the intersection of County Road 42 and County Road 29 for the Chilton County Master Gardeners.
