Baseball signings have been a common sight at Jemison High school throughout the past year.
That trend continued on Thursday with the signing of Logan Ray, who will continue his baseball career at Marion Military Institute.
“I’ve had the privilege of going to the playoffs in baseball all four years,” Jemison senior Logan Ray said. “Coach Easterling has been like a second dad to me.”
Ray will join Phillip and Will Lenoir as Panthers who have chosen to attend Marion Military Institute.
Banks Woodley also signed from them Jemison baseball squad.
“It just shows how close they were to each other,” Jemison head coach Jason Easterling said. “They’re all going to be successful in life.”
According to Easterling, Ray’s hitting prowess is what gravitated colleges to his doorstep.
“I’ve never had this many guys sign,” Easterling said. “They’ll be living the dream, and I’m just so proud of them.”
However, Marion Military Institute offered more than the opportunity to play with teammates.
“Their baseball program is outstanding, and they have one of the hottest coaches in the state right now,” Ray said.
Throughout his career, Ray struck fear in opponents and showcased the ability to change a game’s momentum with one swing of the bat.
“I pride myself on hitting,” Ray said. “If I’m not hitting, I’m upset.”
Having spent the majority of his high school career at first base, Ray understands that he must continue to work on his fielding ability.
According to Ray, he looks to hone that part of his game and improve his defensive mobility.
“We tried to consider ourselves as a family and not just a team,” Ray said. “We definitely bonded and had our share of good times.”
