A 10-0 win over the Maplesville Red Devils on Tuesday in area tournament play was enough to send Billingsley to Troy for the Regional Tournament.
Billingsley is the champion of Area 5-1A while Isabella is runner-up and will join the Bears in Troy.
The Red Devils looked to be off to a good start with a leadoff triple from Brinley Carter to get the game started; however, the hit was the only one Maplesville managed in the game as three consecutive strikeouts brought the inning to an end and set the tone for the entire game.
The Bears wasted little time putting runs on the board as a leadoff walk to Kelsie Elrod set up an RBI infield ground ball by Madison Motley to give Billingsley a 1-0 lead.
Pitcher Katlyn Childress continued to retire the Red Devils in order through the top of the second as three consecutive strikeouts sent the game to the home half of the second.
A leadoff walk to Makaela Tindol and a Maplesville error on a ball hit by Spencer Simpson gave the Bears two on with no outs.
An RBI fly ball by Josie Phillips scored Tindol, and a RBI double by Kelsie Elrod scored Simpson.
A sacrifice fly to center by Abby Tindol scored Elrod, and a single by Motley helped set up a two-run in the park home run by Casey Headley thanks to another error by the Red Devils.
After two innings, Billingsley led 6-0.
The Red Devil batters continued to struggle to put a bat on the pitching of Childress through the third and fourth innings as the game moved into the bottom of the fourth, where Billingsley plated one mor
e run.
A one-out single by Motley and a double by Headley pushed Motley around to third where she later scored on a wild pitch to extend the Billingsley lead to seven.
Another three-up, three-down inning by the Red Devils in the fifth allowed the Bears a chance to end the game on the mercy rule, and they did not let the opportunity pass.
A leadoff single by Makaela Tindol and an error by the Red Devils sent Tindol to second while allowing Simpson to reach safely.
Phillips reached base on a fielder’s choice that forced an out on Tindol, but an RBI double by Phillips scored Simpson to put Billingsley two runs away from the win.
Another Maplesville error on a ball hit by Abby Tindol scored both Phillips and Elrod to give the Bears a 10-0 lead and brought the game to an end on the mercy rule.
Childress dominated on the mound for the Bears, allowing just one hit while striking out 14.
Elrod led Billingsley at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance with two doubles and two RBIs.
Morgan Tucker got the start for Maplesville and threw two innings, allowing seven earned runs on four hits and three walks.
Carter’s first inning leadoff triple was the only hit for the Red Devils.
Isabella sent Maplesville home with a 14-11 victory and then lost 17-1 to Billingsley in the championship game.
