Russell Do-it Center is inviting the entire county for a grand opening celebration on April 30.
The center has been a fixture in the community since opening in 1997 and recently completed major renovations to both the exterior and interior of the store.
Mickey Atkins has been a manager at the store since it opened. He has witnessed the building’s appearance come full circle in recent months.
According to Atkins, the renovations took two years of planning and six months of construction.
“Most of it was done by our own people,” Atkins said.
The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. with plenty of festivities planned to follow.
Sweet Alice’s will provide free drinks and food from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while giveaways are handed out.
Chainsaw artist Corey Worden will perform carvings during the event.
According to Atkins, he is expected to design a tiger that will be given to Chilton County High School.
Some of the renovations include an LED sign and an updated entranceway to welcome customers.
Not only did Russell Do-it Center change its appearance, but it also revamped its selection with 2,500 items added to its stock.
“Our store traffic has been up a lot with many new customers coming in,” Atkins said.
The store is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The store remained open for business throughout the entire renovation process.
“It has been quite the experience, and the transformation was pretty dramatic,” Atkins said. “Thanks to the people of Clanton that stuck with us.”
