Senior first baseman Dara Harris got a great sendoff in her final home game for Jemison High School, as the Panthers pounded the Montevallo 11-1 in five innings Wednesday.
After a scoreless first inning, Jemison exploded for seven runs to put the game away early.
The action got started when Erristen Evans was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Charlsie Murphy.
Emma Allred followed with a single, and Harris was walked to load the bases.
Erica Street then ripped a triple over the right fielder’s head to clear the bases and later scored on a hard shot up the middle by Jasmine Epperson.
Following a walk to Hannah Rose Corbin, Destiny Bailey cleared the center field fence with a home run to push the score to 7-0.
While Corbin held the Montevallo bats at bay, Jemison tacked on four more runs in the third inning.
With Harris and Street on base, Jessica Paschal grounded out to shortstop, but both runners were able to score when the Bulldogs committed a pair of errors trying to double up the base runners.
The scoring continued in the third when Epperson doubled, Corbin walked and Bailey connected on a two-run double that scored Epperson and pinch runner Kelson Cole.
Montevallo was able to plate a run in the fourth but the Panthers were able to kill the rally and hold on for the run rule victory.
Epperson, Bailey and Street led Jemison offensively with two hits apiece.
Corbin earned the win in the circle, going all five innings, while surrendering just three hits and striking out four.
The Panthers are set to host the county tournament Friday, weather permitting. Games are set to begin at 9 a.m. with the championship game slated for 3 p.m.
