Clanton to annex industrial park site

Clanton will annex the site of a planned industrial park into the city.
The annexation, once complete, will allow for water and sewer services to be provided to the property, which includes about 520 acres.
The city and county jointly purchased the property in 2015 at a total price of about $1.3 million, with each entity providing an equal share.
The land is located near Interstate 65 Exit 212 and borders both the interstate and Highway 145. Access would be from Highway 145.
Clanton City Clerk Debbie Orange said paperwork for the annexation is being prepared.
After the City Council meeting on Monday, the Chilton County Commission voted in favor of the annexation.
The city and county have formed a joint committee for oversight of the property, but the Council and Commission still must approve significant decisions, such as the annexation.
In other business Monday, the Council:
•Approved entering into an agreement with Alabama Department of Transportation for maintaining rights-of-way for the portions of Highway 22 and Highway 145 that are inside city limits. The city will be reimbursed a maximum of $14,000 and will be required to provide a minimum of two cuttings per year.
•Learned that two lots owned by the city in Creek Wood subdivision were appraised at $20,000 each. The appraisals were sought because someone had expressed interest in purchasing the lots.
•Were presented two restaurant retail liquor licenses for the first time: a new license for Bertolone in downtown Clanton and a transfer for Friends Steakhouse off Highway 31 in south Clanton. The Friends license would transfer from Christine Thomas to Hoyt Keith. Both licenses were presented for the first time and would be re-introduced for final approval at the next Council meeting, on April 25.
•Approved the audit for Fiscal Year 2015 as presented by Hull & Russell PC.
•Accepted the resignation of Paul Shearon from Clanton Fire Department for health reasons.
•Approved minutes from the previous meeting and paying necessary bills.
