We are one week into spring and looking for reasons to get outside and enjoy the warm weather that the residents of Chilton County are reintroduced to this time of year.
The list of outdoor activities will soon be growing with a visit to Higgins Ferry Park or Minooka Park likely to be near the top of many people’s weekend priorities.
Higgins Ferry will host several fishing tournaments throughout the spring and summer, with one being held on nearly every weekend.
With spring break upon us, residents can enjoy time with the entire family while staying at campgrounds at either of the two parks.
There is a variety of outdoor recreation to be found at both parks with Higgins Ferry being known for its boat ramp and swimming area on Lake Mitchell and Minooka for its off-road trails.
While talking to monthly and weekend campers at Higgins Ferry, I could easily tell the appreciation they have for the park.
From the weekend fisherman to the daily camper, a sense of respect is evident for fellow patrons and the park’s appearance as a whole.
Park Ranger Derek Collum shared the story of residents along the road that runs through Higgins Ferry Park picking up trash on the sides of the road.
That story signified the importance of Higgins Ferry and how the surrounding community has embraced the park’s presence over the years.
Remember when considering this year’s spring and summer destinations, that you don’t have to look far to find a memorable outdoor experience.
