A student at LeCroy Career Technical Center sustained an eye injury during a welding class on Thursday.
Chilton County Superintendent of Education Tommy Glassock said on Friday that the incident was under investigation, but he did confirm there was an “accident” on Thursday afternoon shortly before 2 p.m. involving a student in a welding class.
Glasscock said the student sustained an eye injury from a piece of metal in the welding shop, which resulted in the student being transported to a Montgomery hospital.
Glasscock said the student was later transferred to a hospital in Birmingham where the student was being treated for the injury.
“I went and visited with the parents of the student and the student last night,” Glasscock said. “At this time, we are looking into what happened, and everything is certainly still under investigation.”
No other details were available including what the student was doing during the time of the injury.
Clanton Fire Chief David Driver said Clanton Fire Department responded to the call as well as RPS ambulance.
