Clanton Elementary School is hosting the second annual Auction for Academics on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.
The auction will help the first grade teachers afford necessary educational materials for the students.
“With the money raised we will be able to purchase art supplies, craft supplies, copy paper or printer cartridges,” said Kimiera Locke, one of the first grade teachers and organizers of the event. “We get some state money, and then we use this money to purchase things for the classrooms.”
During the event’s debut in 2015, Locke said $4,000 was raised and divided among 14 first grade teachers.
“We had a great turnout for the first year,” Locke said. “We were very pleased.”
The event will be held in the cafeteria at Clanton Elementary School and will include a silent auction, a singing from students at CES, and a live auction with Chilton County Superintendent of Education Tommy Glasscock serving as auctioneer.
Items available for auction will include various gift baskets that could be used for Easter, graduation or other special events, artwork, gift certificates to local businesses and other items.
“We will have different things for people to bid on,” Locke said.
Pizza and drinks will also be served during the event.
“This is something the whole family can attend,” Locke said. “You don’t have to attend Clanton Elementary School to be able to participate. We just hope everyone will come out and have a lot of fun.”
