Members of the Chilton County Commission were updated on Monday about the status of upcoming road projects in the county.
Commission Chairman Allen Caton said he received word that the next project under the Rural Assistance Match Program (RAMP) would be the resurfacing of County Road 29.
The constructing, resurfacing and traffic striping on County Road 29 will be from the junction of County Road 48 to the junction of County Road 42, according to the proposal summary on ALDOT’s website.
The length of the project is 2.6 miles and is expected to take 30 working days to complete, according to ALDOT.
On working day projects, the contractor will not be charged time for issues that prevent work beyond the contractor’s control (examples are rain, too wet, material temperature restrictions, holidays, etc.)
Caton said Wiregrass Construction was the low bidder for the project.
A second project including the resurfacing of County Road 48 is expected to be let out for contract on March 25.
The road comes off County Road 28 and goes into County Road 42.
Chilton County received $5 million for projects to be completed under the RAMP program.
RAMP allows ALDOT to sell bonds to provide the local match for participating counties and cities.
Gov. Robert Bentley announced in May 2013 that 254 RAMP projects were expected to be completed in Alabama.
Chilton County engineer Tony Wearren said there were also five bridges due to be let out for contract in June.
In other news, Wearren requested a resolution approving to reclassify Susan Harrison as a senior clerk with the Chilton County Road Department at a pay rate of $15 per hour.
Harrison will take the position of Edith Gentry who is retiring March 31 after more than 22 years of service.
Wearren also requested a resolution authorizing Caton to sign an agreement between Chilton County and ADEM for the reimbursement of the cost of disposing scrap tires.
The commission also approved a line item transfer for Chilton County Probate Judge Bobby Martin in the election budget.
Martin requested $2,000 of overtime pay be transferred for the preparation of a voter’s list.
