Fairytale Show planned for Feb. 12

The fourth annual Jemison Fairytale Show will be held Feb. 12 at the Jemison Municipal Complex.
Children of all ages and adults are invited to come and participate in the event where characters from many popular fairytales come to life.
The event was started by Jemison librarian Tammie McGriff who wanted to show children that books and the characters within could come alive if they use their imagination.
“Fairytales help children dream,” McGriff said. “Kids love to dream and imagine, and this also gives them an opportunity to make believe and meet new friends.”
The event begins at 6:30 p.m., and costumes representing various fairytale characters are encouraged for those wishing to participate.
“I love seeing the different costumes,” McGriff said. “I think the children really enjoy having the opportunity to dress up themselves so they feel like they can be like the characters they get to see at the Fairytale Show.”
McGriff said this year there will be no shortage of princesses on site to sing for the children.
There will also be different booths set up throughout the Municipal Complex depicting various fairytales.
Businesses throughout Chilton County are encouraged to participate, and McGriff said if anyone is still interested in setting up a booth to contact her.
There will be an area for children to decorate colorful masks this year, and a table will be set up selling food and drinks for those interested.
Church youth groups will participate, cheerleaders and dancers as well as singers will provide entertainment throughout the night.
“We always have a lot of fun,” McGriff said. “It is just a good time for people.”
In 2015, McGriff estimates 300-350 attended the Fairytale Show.
The price to attend the event is $2 for adults, school age children $1 and children ages 3 and under are free.
