City votes to purchase equipment for new fire truck

Clanton’s City Council on Monday approved the purchase of equipment to go on a new fire truck for the Clanton Fire Department.
The approval was for roughly $33,000 to Nasco Equipment Company.
Councilwoman Mary Mell Smith asked Clanton Fire Chief David Driver when he expected to have the new fire truck.
Driver told Smith he anticipated having the new truck at the Clanton Fire Department within the next couple of weeks as it is currently in Pelham.
In other news, the council:
•Voted to advertise for a full-time park employee and hire Brian Easterling to work from noon until 3 p.m. Easterling will be hired as a part-time employee.
•Voted to approve the fire chief to attend a conference in Tuscaloosa from Feb. 2-5.
•Voted to approve city clerk Debbie Orange to attend a training session in Tuscaloosa Feb. 10-12.
•Approved a request to allow Clanton Police Chief Keith Maddox and Fire Chief Driver to attend an advanced active shooting training class at the Montgomery Police Academy.
•Voted to add Mims Wrecker Service in Clanton to the rotation of wreckers.
•Voted to give Mayor Billy Joe Driver the authority to offer appraisals for the sanitary sewer system going to the hospital.
•Approved a resolution to send out bids for fencing at the city softball complex.
•Accepted a bid from Giddens Incorporated out of Sylacauga to work on drainage problems the city has in Maplewood. The council voted to accept Giddens bid for $34,750.
•Approved paying necessary bills.
•Approved the minutes from the previous council meeting.
