Allen Ray Smitherman 71, of Clanton, died Jan. 9.

He was born on Dec. 14, 1944, in Dallas County, the son of the late Clifton Thomas Smitherman and the late Minnie Lee Johnson Smitherman.

He was a maintenance specialist.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Barbara Cleckler Smitherman of Clanton; sons, Christopher Allen Smitherman of Clanton, Brian Keith Smitherman (Wendy) of Clanton; granddaughters, Emily Belle Smitherman of Clanton, Taylor Nicole Smitherman of Clanton, Sydney Breann Smitherman of Clanton; grandson, Brady Keith Smitherman of Clanton; brother-in-law, Jimmy W. Cleckler (Myra) of Clanton; brothers, Charles Smitherman (Bobbie) of Brent, David Smitherman (Sara) of Newnan, Ga.; sister, Doris Molina (Al) of Newnan, Ga. and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Christopher Smitherman; parents, Clifton T. and Minnie Johnson Smitherman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Johnnie W. and Laverne Cleckler and brothers, Thomas J.L. Smitherman, William Arthur Smitherman and James E. Smitherman.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Christopher Smitherman; parents, Clifton T. and Minnie Johnson.

Friends were received from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 11 at Martin Funeral Home.

Services will be held Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. at Sunshine Assembly of God with the Rev. Robert Haggard, the Rev. Arthur Davis, the Rev. Dale Collins and the Rev. W.T. Cleckler officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunshine Assembly of God Cemetery in Clanton.
