Bethany Baptist Church
Sunday we met and sang “Tell Me The Old Old Story,” and had a devotion, “Jesus Lives to Intercede,” from Hebrews 7:25.
The subject of our lesson was the resurrection of Jesus and how churches got away from believing and teaching this truth. Many denominations today doubt the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his death and burial.
Without the resurrection we would have no hope. By believing in the gospel of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection we can be saved. Jesus conquered sin and the grave. The only way to be saved is by admitting we are a sinner, repent, and to put our faith and trust in Jesus. He can and will save us.
We have an eternal priesthood, and we need no earthly man to go to God for us. Christ fulfilled the law and did away with the need for the earthly high priest. When we sin as saved people, we can go to God in prayer knowing that Jesus is interceding for us.
Our savior is living, our God is real, alive, and hears our prayers. Do not forget the core of our belief, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We were dismissed to Sunday school with a prayer, after which we sang “Joy To The World,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “The First Noel,” and “Glory Be to God on High.
Bro. Aubry announced that we would be having fifth Sunday fellowship following the morning service. Choir practice followed with no night services.
Sunday, December 13 at 5 p.m. we will be going to Landmark Baptist Church in Prattville for a four-church Christmas program.
Bro. Aubry was feeling better and brought the morning message from II Timothy 1:8-12, “Be Not Ashamed of Jesus Christ and His Gospel.” We should never be ashamed of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, but instead be zealous to do God’s work and will in your life.
The apostle Paul, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, was writing to a young pastor who was discouraged. As believers, sometimes we put ourselves in a situation that we may not want others to know we are children of God. Do not be ashamed to put God first in our lives. Be all that God wants us to be, stand for him when the time comes that we need to take a stand.
This passage teaches us that there are some blessings for which God’s people should never be ashamed. Be not ashamed of your savior who died on the cross for your sin. Jesus loves us today as he did when we were first saved from our sins.
Tell others how Jesus saved your soul, and identify with the gospel. Do not profess to be a child of God and live like the lost world. Do not shame the name of Jesus. Share the message of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world.
Always put God first in our life because we can never be what God wants us to be unless we are willing to put Christ first and foremost every day.
We were dismissed with a prayer and the hymn “Only Trust Him.”
Please remember to pray for Bro. Aubry and Sister Shirley, as they prepare for his second aneurysm surgery in the very near future. Our church, missions and missionaries, Henry, Myra, Grace, Debbie R, Frankie, Jeanette, J.C., Jenny, Lisa R, Vikii, Helen, Charlotte, Evelyn K, and most of all those who are dying without Christ in their heart.
We would love for you to visit with us at 9212 County Road 49, in Verbena. Our services are 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sundays, and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights.
