Chilton County School System employees will receive payroll checks on Friday, the day schools close for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
Superintendent of Education Tommy Glasscock wanted to distribute the checks on Friday, but after receiving opposition from board members, formally recommended during Tuesday’s regular meeting that payroll checks be distributed on Dec. 30.
In order to distribute on Dec. 30, the school system would have had to paid staff to do the work, between 8 a.m. and noon.
Board members at the meeting asked why the checks could not be distributed on Friday, and after they were assured that funds would be available, all were in agreement to distribute on Friday as a courtesy of convenience for employees.
An amended recommendation was approved.
