Principal asks council for donation to ‘Save-A-Seat’ campaign

Clanton’s City Council tabled a decision about donating to Chilton County High School’s “Save-A-Seat” campaign.
The school is raising money to replace seats in its aging auditorium.
School Principal Cynthia Stewart addressed the council at its Nov. 9 regular meeting.
The council voted unanimously to table the matter and could bring it back up a future meeting.
Meeting attendee Elmer Harris later addressed the council and said he endorsed the campaign.
In other business, the council:
•Approved the hire of Billy Mixon as a part-time truck driver in the sanitation department.
•Heard from Lally Bates, who helps organize Chilton County’s annual Veterans Day program. Bates thanked the council for its help and invited them to the program, which was held Nov. 11.
•Heard from Van Forrester, president of the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce board of directors, who thanked the council for its support of the annual Trick or Treat Streets event. He also informed the council that the Chamber is offering two scholarships for anyone wanting to attend a meeting pertaining to retail recruitment.
•Heard from County Commissioner Shannon Welch, who asked the council about the formation of a committee to oversee the property that was recently purchased jointly by the city and county.
•Tabled a decision about a data agreement for new software for the city’s municipal court.
•Approved minutes from the Oct. 26 meeting.
