Authorities are investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon on County Road 23 near Verbena.

Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon said it appears the incident was a domestic dispute, but authorities are still looking into what happened.

Shearon said a homeowner allegedly heard someone yelling, went outside to investigate with a gun, and another individual emerged and was reportedly shot by the homeowner.

The victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Shearon said late Tuesday afternoon he did not know the status of the injuries of the individual shot.

County Road 23 is located near Confederate Memorial Park, Shearon said.

“Right now we are just trying to piece it all together,” Shearon said. “We don’t know exactly what happened, but we think this is going to be an isolated type of incident. This is nothing for the public to worry about.”
