James Carl Moates, 61, of Verbena, passed away on Sept. 28 at his home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1954, in Chilton County, the son of the late Jesse Carl Moates and Annie Lois Mims Moates.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda Moates of Verbena; son, Jesse Moates of Verbena; son, Jacob Moates of Verbena; sister, Mary L. Roper (Carl) of Prattville; sister, Betty S. Royal (Vann) of Deatsville; sister-in-law, Ida Moates of Pell City; nieces, Charlotte Graham, Sue Pugh, Paula Lett, Gabby Waller, Melissa Cleckler and Holley Waller; nephews, Jeff Royal, Ricky Roper, Brian Royal, Thomas C. Waller and Steven Cleckler.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. from New Covenant Baptist Church in Clanton with the Rev. Shorty Mims officiating.

The body will be in state two hours prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in the Verbena Community Cemetery.
