The Chilton County Fair will return Tuesday evening, Sept. 29 and last through Saturday, Oct. 3.

For the second consecutive year, the fair will be held at Clanton City Park in the open area near the children’s playground. Gates will open at 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 5 p.m. Saturday.

Kissel Entertainment will once again provide rides for the annual event.

“The ride count is nearly the same,” said Scott Zuelzke, president of the Clanton Kiwanis Club, the event’s sponsor. “That aspect of the fair is the same as it’s always been.”

Starting in 2014, the fair had to change its location from the longtime site near the Chilton County Airport, due to regulations that stated tall rides posed a potential safety hazard for aircraft.

Since then, the Kiwanis Club has been seeking a new permanent site in hope of bringing back all the familiar events that are associated with the Chilton County Fair, such as live entertainment, exhibits and competitions.

“We want the demolition derby back as much as everyone else,” Zuelzke said.

Zuelzke he had heard positive comments from attendees of last year’s fair, who praised the City Park for its security and cleanliness.

The fair continues to be one of the most important fundraisers for the area.

“Every bit of the money that we raise is going back to the community,” Zuelzke said.

Standard admission is $2 per person, and parking is free. Armbands will also be for sale.

Additional information about armbands will be released closer to the date of the event.

The Clanton Police Department and Chilton County Sheriff’s Department will assist with the event, as well as students from local high school Key Clubs and the Civil Air Patrol.

Those who enjoy the carnival aspect of the fair should find plenty of rides and concessions to choose from.

“They have the better of what Kissel has to offer as far as rides,” said Kiwanis member Ann Mims. “He brings the best.”
