Thorsby police chief earns certification

Thorsby Police Chief Rodney Barnett completed 160 hours of training in the Certified Law Enforcement Executive Program and was presented his 160 Hour Certification in Law Enforcement at the annual Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Orange Beach on Aug. 6.
“This is a mark of success for Chief Barnett as he has successfully completed Level III of the Certified Law Enforcement Executive Program,” said Belinda Blackburn, director of the Office of Continuing Education at Jacksonville State University, on behalf of the University Partnership for Alabama Continuing Education and the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police. “Earning this certification is a credit to Chief Barnett and also to the city of Thorsby for its contribution to the advancement of law enforcement management principles.”
In order to earn the certification, Barnett had to undergo 160 hours of professional training at the executive level and pass examinations at the end of each segment.
Content areas for the program are Understanding and Developing Your Leadership Style, Police Leadership: Managing for the Future, Ethics and Integrity, Police Organizational Structure: Managing for Effectiveness, Strategic Planning, and Personnel Management.
