An open house was held Sept. 1 in an attempt to lure tenants to Careside Medical Park.

Careside is the medical facility adjacent to the closed Chilton Medical Center off Highway 145 in Clanton.

While the old hospital is for sale, the owners of the property wish to find practices to lease space at Careside.

“It’s not restricted to just medical use,” said Sheila Brockman, chief executive officer of CastleMark Properties LLC. “We have storefront as well as offices.”

Careside is a collection of suites totaling about 12,000 square feet.

The suites range from about 400 square feet to about 6,000 square feet, though Brockman said space can be combined and doesn’t necessarily have to follow the plan.

The facility has been recently painted, new carpet installed and sidewalks replaced, Brockman said.

“That’s all that needed to be done,” she said.

One of the suites was renovated in 2012 and has never been occupied.

Brockman said perhaps the most obvious opportunity would be for outside specialists to share space, and possibly even staff, at the facility.

Brockman said she’d like to see the facility allow “missing pieces” of health care to return to the community, such as pediatric dentistry and dermatology.

She said the open house helped identify potential renters.

“We’re actively putting together a plan for those people who are interested in sharing space with other,” Brockman said.

Current tenants include Chilton Surgical Associates and Alpha, which offers drug testing for employment and worker’s compensation claims.
