The Gardens of Clanton will mark National Assisted Living Week from Sept. 13-18 with a full schedule of special events.
Administrator Vickie Moseley said the week’s activities are meant to celebrate the residents.
“That whole week is just about celebrating their lives here,” Moseley said. “It’s just all about them.”
•Sept. 13: An ice cream social will be held, pictures will be made to be framed and the Peach Queens will visit the residents.
•Sept. 14: Hickory Chip barbecue will be served for “Patriotic Day.” Soldiers will present a flag and lead residents in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Sen. Cam Ward will visit and present a proclamation. Signs of Mercy will sing.
•Sept. 15: Chosen Two will sing on “Hawaiian Day.” District Judge Rhonda Hardesty, Probate Judge Bobby Martin, Clanton Mayor Billy Joe Driver, Circuit Court Clerk Glenn McGriff, state Rep. Jimmy Martin and Judge Sibley Reynolds will visit for lunch.
•Sept. 16: Three Amigos will provide lunch and entertain for “Mexican Day.”
•Sept. 17: Southern Care Hospice and LeCroy Career Technical Center cosmetology students will present a fashion show. Chilton County High School cheerleaders and band will visit.
Resident Deborah Karn said she has been named one of the queens of the fashion show three times.
“You get a lot of people involved in it,” Karn said. “I enjoy every minute of it.”
•Sept. 18: Residents will wear their favorite team’s colors for “Spirit Day.” Grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream and cupcakes will be served.
Local pastors will also offer devotions each day of the week.
Resident Raymond Cox will celebrate National Assisted Week for the first time.
“It’s a nice thing for any organization to recognize their accomplishments and success,” Cox said.
Resident Joyce Eiland said she’s looking forward to wearing hats made for the residents by Moseley, and Henry Doyle said he couldn’t pick a favorite day of the week.
“They’re all my favorite days,” he said.
