Helmets, cleats and Friday night lights are just a few things associated with football season.

Unfortunately, there’s also the scramble to find a parking spot, a seat and a bite to eat before kickoff.

That’s why the Chilton County High School Gridiron Club is offering season packages to make attending home games in Tiger Stadium a more enjoyable experience.

The season packages offered include a Gridiron membership, a pre-game “tailgate” meal and reserved seating.

For those interested in supporting the CCHS football program by joining the Gridiron Club, a $25 fee will cover the membership and free parking to all home games.

Each member will be given a numbered sticker for placement in the window of the individual’s vehicle, which will grant the member free admission into the Gridiron Club parking area behind the school.

Hickory Chip will also cater a pre-game meal in the field house for members.

$40 will cover a membership and the pre-game tailgate meal to be served at 6 p.m. before each home game.

Meal items served include barbecue, steak burgers, chili, hot dogs and more.

The cost for a tailgate season meal pass is $25 for children 12 and under.

“We just want to provide some fun and fellowship before the game,” Club President Chris Smith said.

Reserved seating is also available in front of the press box on the home bleachers, facing the middle of the field.

Smith said the stadium has 100 seats, but there are only 36 left for people to purchase.

The reserved seats will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis until they are sold out.

One reserved seat is $50, and seats may be transferred to another person if the owner does not attend the game.

$75 will cover a reserved seat and a tailgate meal package per person.

CCHS has five home games scheduled for this year’s season.

A registration form for all packages may be found on the CCHS Gridiron Club’s Facebook page. People may also send a request for a form via the club’s e-mail: cchsgridiron@hotmail.com.

Those interested may give their form and money to a current Gridiron Club member, or send forms and checks, made payable to CCHS Gridiron Club, to Chilton County High School at 1214 7th Street South in Clanton.

Smith said the money raised will be used for various projects for the football team.

“This year, we’re adding game clocks to the field and a new sound system,” Smith said. “We’re replacing fencing, cleaning bleachers and still paying for the field house. We’re just trying to make it a pleasant atmosphere.”

The Gridiron Club is also busy preparing for the city’s annual Tiger Day, to be held at Tiger Stadium.

The Clanton youth league and Chilton County junior varsity and varsity teams take turns playing scrimmage games during Tiger Day, and the public is invited to watch the games.

Tickets are $5, and the scrimmage games begin at noon.

Smith said players from age 4 to age 18 participate in the annual event.

“It’s just a fun day to get the kids on the field,” Smith said. “The younger kids love running out of the tunnel and it really gets them pumped about playing football.

“It’s really a bridge-building event. A majority of the guys who play on the high school teams once played in the Clanton youth league, so it’s neat to get them all together.”

The Tigers kick off their season at home on Aug. 21 against Sylacauga High School.
