A portion of Alabama Highway 155 between Jemison and Montevallo will soon be widened and resurfaced.
The 4.3-mile portion of roadway stretches from the Shelby County line south to the intersection of 155 and Chilton County Road 33.
The project was let June 26 and will cost between approximately $1.4 and $1.8 million.
“That has been on the agenda for several years,” Rep. Jimmy Martin said. “This project will improve the safety of traveling on Highway 155 between Jemison and Montevallo.”
Martin said he had been pushing for transportation projects in Chilton County, including the resurfacing project of Highway 31 from Clanton to Verbena and areas south. While that project has started, paperwork is still pending on the 155 project, said Jackie Campbell, project manager for the Alabama Department of Transportation.
Campbell estimated that the paperwork would take about two months to complete.
Highway 155 will not only be resurfaced but also widened 2 feet on each side, for a total of 4 feet.
“As narrow as it is, (widening) will make it a lot safer,” Martin said.
The number of working days allotted for the project is 45.
