A Clanton man was sentenced Thursday morning to 15 years in prison for one count of sexual abuse of a child less than 12.

Aaron Keith Minor, 31, appeared in court before Chilton County Circuit Judge John B. Bush for his sentencing.

According to a court order from Bush, Minor was sentenced to the Department of Corrections for a period of 15 years, and will be given credit for time previously served.

Minor was also ordered to pay all court costs associated with the case, crime victim’s compensation, and bail bond fees.

Minor was indicted by a February 2014 grand jury on one count of sexual abuse of a child under 12.

According to the indictment, Minor “subjected sexual contact” to a female who was less than 12 years of age.

A Chilton County jury in June found Minor guilty of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12, according to court records.

Minor was originally arrested Nov. 27, 2013, by the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Bush ordered the case go to trial in April, according to court records.

The jury trial began on June 9.

In 2014, the Chilton County Department of Human Resources (DHR) reported that 382 cases of child abuse were reported in the county, a 15-percent increase from the previous year.
