Clanton Police are looking for someone who stole weapons and other property from an officer on Thursday.
CPD announced that investigators have developed a lead on a vehicle that may have been involved: An older model (possibly late-1990s) Chevrolet or GMC maroon pick-up truck with loud exhaust, fading paint and a short wheel base.
Anyone with information about the vehicle or its driver should call CPD at (205) 755-1194.
A CPD officer’s residence and police vehicle were burglarized between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday, according to information released by the department.
The suspect located the keys to the vehicle inside the residence, which is in the area of County Road 59 near Verbena Methodist Church, and was able to defeat the locking mechanisms that held the weapons in the vehicle.
The officer was not home at the time of the incident.
Several city-issued weapons were taken, including a Rock River AR15 rifle, Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, Glock Model 22 pistol and Taser X2.
Also taken was a leather, basket-weave duty belt along with its components.
“Our concern is that these items could be used in a criminal offense by the offender,” CPD Capt. David Clackley said. “We are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspects and recovering the property.”
CPD Capt. Neil Fetner said bulletins had been issued about the incident to other law enforcement agencies, so that they would know the weapons were stolen if they came across them.
