Howard “Wayne” Penton Sr. 72, of Clanton, passed away on June 24 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born on May 20, 1943, in Chilton County, the son of the late Julius Alfred Penton and the late Ruby Mae Higgins Penton.

He retired from L&N/CSX Railroad.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elaine Connell Penton of Clanton; daughter, Cyndi Boyd (David) of Cantonment, Fla.; sons, Howard Wayne Penton Jr. (Becky) of Cantonment, Fla., Jerry Penton of Clanton; grandchildren, Crystal Caraballo (Aron), Maegan Rose (Ransone), Jayce Boyd, Nikki Jones (Nick), Jarred Penton, Howard Wayne Penton III (Trace), Jacob Penton, Jackson Penton; great-grandchildren, Ruby Calliope, Azalea; niece, Pam Boykin (Tony) and sisters, June P. Wyatt and Pat Wesson.

Friends will be received from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on June 28 at Martin Funeral Home.

Services will be held June 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Chapel with the Rev. W.T. Cleckler officiating.

Interment will follow in Mt. Springs Cemetery.
