Principals approved for CIS, Verbena

Chilton County’s Board of Education approved two principals at its meeting Tuesday.
Mark Stephenson will be principal at Clanton Intermediate School, where he has been assistant principal; and Carla White will be principal at Verbena.
White previously served as assistant principal at Clanton Middle School.
Superintendent Tommy Glasscock made the recommendation as part of the superintendent’s report.
In other business, the board:
•Was led in an invocation by Lauren Wyatt and the Pledge of Allegiance by Lilly Barnett, both of whom are sophomores at Thorsby High School.
•Approved the April financial statements and bank reconciliations of the central office as presented by Chief Financial Officer Steve Yeargan.
•Approved the April payrolls and accounts payable.
•Approved the minutes from the April 21 meeting.
•Approved the non-renewal list.
•Approved school and shop requests, including: LeCroy Career Tech Center, approval of Tammy McCullough as a long-term substitute ($71.25 per day) effective March 30 for the remainder of the school year; Jemison Elementary School, approval of Tiffany Collins as a long-term substitute ($71.25 per day) for Catherine Jacobs Porter effective March 30 for the rest of the school year, and permission to enter into a lease agreement with Xerox Corporation; Thorsby School, approval for the Thorsby FFA Livestock Judging Team to participate in a livestock judging contest on May 16 in Raleigh, Miss.; Clanton Elementary School, permission to apply for the 21st Century Afterschool grant if available for the 2015-16 school year, and if not available, permission to continue a fee-based afterschool program for the 2015-16 school year.

Peterson, teacher at LCTC, effective June 1; Jane Leach, teacher at Clanton Intermediate School, effective May 22; Linda Robinson, teacher at Clanton Middle School, effective May 22; Debra Davis, teacher at Clanton Middle School, effective May 31; Millie Duren, CNP employee at Clanton Middle School, effective May 31; Pamela Taylor, teacher at Clanton Elementary School, effective May 22; Sandy Pate, teacher and bus driver at Jemison Middle School, effective June 1; Stephen Michael Cain, Jemison Middle School, effective May 22; and Brenda M. •Granted the town of Thorsby permission to use property located in front of Thorsby School for a fireworks display on July 1.
•Approved a leave request for Lynsey Carden (maternity) from Aug. 8 to Sept. 10.
•Approved a Maintenance II salary schedule.
•Awarded a computer maintenance bid to J&W Communications.
•Approved the following employees: Brittany Yeargan, elementary teacher at Maplesville High School; Bridget Caton, general science (secondary) teacher at Maplesville High School; Corbin G. Stewart, general science teacher at Chilton County High School; Christy P. Mims, assistant principal at Jemison High School; and Dana McDaniel, CNP assistant manager at Jemison High School.
•Approved to create and post for a position of assistant CSFO/coordinator of finance and accounting with a salary of $45,000-$55,000.
•Approved to extend the consulting contract with Walter Fenn through July 31.
•Approved the execution of a lease purchase acknowledgement for the purchase of software through CompassLearning Inc. and accept the terms of the formal proposal between the board and Baystone Government Finance.
•Approved to bid services for plumbing, electrical and tile installation.
•Approved the closing of school offices, shops and the central office for Memorial Day on May 25.
•Approved a proposed summer office schedule for school offices and the central office: regular office hours Monday through Thursday and closed on Friday, starting June 1.
•Approved for the Chilton County YMCA to use two school buses for field trips.
•Approved to solicit bids for a roofing project at Jemison High School.
•Met in a brief executive session to discuss an employee’s “good name and character.”
