Robert Jefferson Payton

Robert Jefferson Payton, age 90, of Clanton, passed away on April 8 at his residence.
He was born in Chilton County on May 9, 1924, the son of the late Rev. Robert Ocie Payton and the late Minnie Lee Chasteen Payton.
He was a former carpenter.
He is survived by son, Bobby Joe (Judy) Payton of Clanton; son, Jeff (Brenda) Payton of Jemison; grandchildren, Joey (Tammy) Payton of Clanton, Karen (Jimmy) Smith of Jemison, Tiffany Payton of Tulsa, Okla., Keith Crowson of Lewisburg, Tenn., Jason (Tonya) Morris of Jemison, Joy (Allen) Parker of Jemison, and Chris (Jennifer) Morris of Dothan; along with a host of great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Willodean Gore Payton.
Visitation will be held April 10, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at Clanton Church of God.
In tribute to R.J.’s love of gospel music, a gospel signing will be held on April 11 beginning at 1 p.m. at Clanton Church of God.
A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Deters, the Rev. Stoney Barbee, the Rev. Billy Boatwright and the Rev. Willard Scott officiating.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Methodist Protestant Cemetery in Clanton.
Final care and arrangements entrusted to the Ellison Memorial Funeral Home of Clanton.
