Calvary Independent Baptist Church
Sunday morning’s service included a message from John 20:1-20. We looked at the biblical account of the three days and three nights the Son of Man was in the heart of the earth, as told in Matthew 12:38-40.
It is understood by studying the Scriptures, and comparing scripture with scripture; yet it can be very confusing and even impossible to understand if you ignore the commandment of 2 Timothy 2:15. The Wednesday night service, Sunday morning service and Sunday night service of today’s church all have a spiritual application to these three events centered upon the death, burial and resurrection of our great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. If you come to any three of these services you ought to come looking for Jesus, come to hear from Jesus, and come to worship Jesus because he is our risen Lord.
Sunday night was Family Night, and the service included a short song service followed by a message from Philippians 2:1-13. We looked at how Christians need to be united in mind, united in service, united in power and united in purpose.
After services upstairs, we had a fellowship meal downstairs celebrating this month’s birthdays and anniversaries.
If you are in or near Clanton and have the opportunity, we would love for you to come and visit with us this Sunday.

Sunday morning, Bro. Kenneth Moates led the congregation in the hymns “Oh I Want to See Him,” “Joy Unspeakable,” “The Old Gospel Ship” and “I Want to Know More About My Lord.”
Bro. Wayne Barnett brought a devotion from Matthew 5:16: If we don’t create a ruckus, nothing will happen. Jesus saved us and created us to be a light. A lot of Christians are being camouflaged to the world. Let’s turn on the light so the world can see Christ in us.
Gracie Vines, Kristin Thomas and Avree Parrish sang “Introduction” for the Sunday morning special.
Bro. Heath Vines preached from Mark 7:1-8: Some Christians claim to be one thing, but in reality our hearts are miles away from what we claim to be. This is known as hypocrisy. Some honor God with their lips, but their hearts are far from God. Some people will act right if so-and-so is acting right, and they will act wrong if so-and-so is acting wrong. God hasn’t called us to live like somebody else, but to live for God only.
The only thing concerning God is our hearts. We shouldn’t want to go through the motions; we should honor God with our hearts too. Some people have “head knowledge” of Christ, but no “heart knowledge” of him. Christ desires for us to honor him with our hearts.
Sunday night, the congregation sang the following hymns: “Glory to His Name,” “Fill My Way Every Day with Love” and “Just Over in the Glory Land.”
Bro. Kenneth Moates brought his devotion from Luke 12:1, 22 and 30-32: It brings God pleasure for us to be victorious. It pleases God to be able to bless us.
Kristin Thomas, Avree Parrish and Gracie Vines sang “There Was Jesus.”
Bro. Heath Vines preached from Hebrews 4:1-11. Enter into God’s rest right now. Some ways we can rest in God are through revival, getting our hearts where they need to be with God and giving all worry to God.
Sometimes we can be tired in body because we are tired in spirit. God’s presence brings rest (Exodus 33:14). No matter where we are in our walk with God, his presence is always there. We may get tired, but if we keep going he will give us rest.
Even though we fight battles, God’s peace is still there (John 16:33). No matter what comes, God is for us, and one day there will be an eternal rest for all of God’s people.
