The Chilton County Board of Education recently approved the hire of an assistant superintendent, the resignation of one principal and the recommendation to not renew the contract of another principal.
The personnel decisions were among several made by the board at a regular meeting March 17.
Walter Fenn was unanimously approved as the school system’s assistant superintendent, pending a satisfactory contract negotiation.
Fenn has served as a consultant to the system since January.
Along with Fenn, Todd Davis was unanimously approved as an assistant principal at the LeCroy Career Technical Center.
Clanton Middle School Principal Donny Finlayson’s resignation was among several approved by the board. Finlayson’s resignation will be effective April 30.
Other resignations included: Amanda Price, teacher at Chilton County High School, effective May 22; Gerald Stamps, teacher at Clanton Middle School, effective March 31; Gladys Diane Wilkins, cafeteria manager at Jemison Elementary, effective March 31; and Wayne Howell, maintenance supervisor, effective June 30.
Another county principal, Clanton Intermediate’s David Seale, saw his contract not renewed based on the recommendation of Superintendent Tommy Glasscock.
Glasscock said he couldn’t comment on the decision itself but explained that all principals work on a contract basis. The contracts of new principals can last for a period of up to two years, as Seale’s did.
At the end of the two-year “probationary” contract, if the board doesn’t vote to not renew the contract, it automatically turns into a three-year contract.
Glasscock said Seale would be reassigned to another position in the system.
The board approved a list of substitutes, including: Shelene Connell, teacher and support; April Deason, teacher; Sherry Fancher, bus driver; Heather Gilliland, teacher and support; Art Hoyt, teacher; Jackie Talley, teacher and support; and Jerica Tuttle, teacher and support.
The board also approved a list of leave requests, including: Ken Copen, teacher at Thorsby High, military, from April 6-12; Bruce Saunders, Verbena, catastrophic, beginning Feb. 2 as needed; and Regina Bryant, Chilton County High School, family and medical, from April 20 to May 22.
